Outsourcing in Your Personal Life

#58: Outsourcing in Your Personal Life

I recently did a poll on Instagram, and 83% of the people that responded to this poll (out of approx. 150 people) said that they wanted to outsource tasks in their personal life. And the number one thing preventing them from doing that was because they felt guilty.

I recently did a poll on Instagram, and 83% of the people that responded to this poll (out of approx. 150 people) said that they wanted to outsource tasks in their personal life. And the number one thing preventing them from doing that was because they felt guilty.

The problem wasn’t money or options, it was the shame and guilt and the stigma about bringing on help at home. So instead of doing that, they are left burning the candle at both ends. I think this is a big problem we need to talk about!

Here are the main things I covered in this episode:

  • What outsourcing looked like for me growing up
  • Introducing outsourcing into my own home (and to my partner!)
  • Feeling like you shouldn’t hire help or reasons people don’t
  • Men versus women bearing the load of household work
  • Does outsourcing make us lazy?
  • Supporting the community through outsourcing
  • Personal life outsourcing options (childcare, grocery delivery, etc.)
  • The mental load of motherhood and household work
  • Outsourcing doesn’t make you less than
  • Letting go of shame (and digging in to why you feel that shame)

A few highlights from this episode:

[4:19] –  Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do something.

[7:04] – I think a lot of the time that help is why we are able to do the things that we want to do.

[11:17] – There is so much good in outsourcing, not to mention the fact that hiring housekeepers, or dog walkers, or lawnmowers, or grocery delivery people supports the community as a whole

[12:56]  – We always talk about sourcing in business, and I think that that’s a wonderful thing. But maybe it’s your personal life that needs a little bit of extra help.

[20:53] – These services, hiring people to help you – it does not make you less than.

I hope this episode helps you know that there are outsourcing options out there, if you are feeling overwhelmed. And I hope you realize that asking for help doesn’t make you less than or that you have to feel shame for it. Getting help is worth it, and you are worth it!

You know what I love? Coming home from a long day of work and sweating away in a hot kitchen for over an hour just to get a meal on the table my family all complains about. Actually, no. I don’t love that at all. I love the idea of a family meal together, but dinnertime is one of the most stressful times of the week…or at least, it used to be!

Lately, I have been relying on Chilled Freezer Meals! Chilled makes mealtime simple with frozen meals for local pick up and home delivery to communities in Eastern and Central Iowa, and they ship meal bundles nationwide.

They have a variety of options, sizes, and are budget-friendly. We are huge fans of the cracked chicken sliders and mini lasagnas, and I always add in a couple orders of breakfast burritos.

You can get 10% off your first order with the code MADDIE. Check out Chilled here!
