He put a ring on it

In an effort to move my most viewed posts from my old blog to here, I’ll be posting a few things you may have already read. Hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane!

This post was originally published on February, 3, 2012.

I’ve been subtly warned that certain people (ahem…Tessa) expect me to blog about my engagement story.

And when the Boyfriend (wait…am I going to have to change his blog name!?) proposed, he added shortly after, now you have something fun to blog about!

Real subtle guys. BUT, I do think it’ll be fun to read back on this, so here goes!

On Saturday morning I woke up and watched The Pioneer Woman cooking show with my mom. Soon after, I became hungry. Soon after, I showered (mostly irrelevant). Soon after, the Boyfriend came over. He looked real cute in his sweater. I complimented him. I said, Do you want lunch?

He said, Yup.

I said, Let’s go out.

And he said, OK.

I asked my parents, Do you guys want to come? (See I’m a thinker. When Mom and Dad come, they pay.) And they said, Sure! So away we went.

After lunch my parents went to go look at appliances since they were on sale (big day in Mitchell, SD, let me tell you), and I asked the Boyfriend if he wanted to go along. He gave me a funny look and I was all, Well I don’t know, you need a dishwasher and it’s not like we had plans.

But he did have plans.

So we got in the car and I was like, What the heck should we do until 3? (3 was when we were going to a hotel for a pool party with his family) And he was all, I don’t know. And then, being the apparently flawless actor that he is, the Boyfriend was like, Oh I know! Let’s go to my house. I saw this game on TV and I set it up in the living room so you can do it.

Now this is where people are like, And you seriously had no idea? And I’m all, You don’t know this boy. He is weird. It’s why I love him, but he’s weird. When I was in Italy, he just decided to tear down a wall in his garage. So he did it. By himself. He’s always doing things and I’ve just learned to be like, Whatever, because it’s easier.

So I was all, Whatever, because I had nothing better to do.

I’ll be honest, when we pulled into his driveway I was like, Maybe he’s proposing! And then my brain said, No that would be really random. Today is totally normal. Don’t get your hopes up.

So I was like, OK, brain. Good call.

The first post-it I saw was on the door going inside, and it said “When we first started dating I thought this tasted like dirt. Hint: Dunkin’ Donuts.” So then I went to the coffee cupboard and saw there was ANOTHER post-it on the coffee pot. This is when I start getting excited because I DOMINATE at treasure hunts. I. Tear. Them. Up. So I went cruising around the house like it was my job.

“When I bought this, you thought it was too big, but now you kind of like it.”

THE GIANT TV IN THE LIVING ROOM!

“When I told you how much this was, you were mad because you thought it was ugly.”

THE HIDEOUS DUCK PAINTING ON THE WALL! (I’m entirely serious. It’s coming down, folks.)

“You made me buy this from IKEA even though I thought it was dumb.”

COTTON BALL AND Q-TIP HOLDERS! (They are stylish and useful! YOU’RE WELCOME.)

The Boyfriend was actually recording me on his Mac the entire time, and it’s about this time where I’m in the bathroom yelling, All these notes make me sound like a JERK!

The last note led me to the pocket door. I pulled it out and read the note about 4 times and STILL didn’t understand what the hell was going on. It was all sweet and nice and I was like, Huh?

I KNOW RIGHT!? You read about women being all, I had no idea, I was so surprised! And I’ve always thought I would be like, No way can you surprise me! False. Because look what’s going on behind me while I’m utterly confused:

He’s just chillin’.

No, not really.

So then I turn around.

*Confused hands on hips stance*

And he’s all, Will you marry me? And he holds up the ring AND I’M STILL THINKING WHAT IS GOING ON.

I know. I’m embarassed too.

So then I get closer, mostly because I’m attracted to shiny objects, and I’m like, For real? And he’s all, Yeah. And I’m like, Nooooo really? And he’s like Yes.

And I’m like, YEAH!

And then he’s like, Do you want to put the ring on?

DO YOU WANT TO PUT THE RING ON.

And all this time I thought I would get proposed to, grab the ring and dance around the room screaming, AND I FORGOT ABOUT THE RING. Seriously.

So I was like, Hell yeah I want to put the ring on but I didn’t actually say that because I didn’t say much at all. I was just like, Noooo you’re kidding right?

*She mumbled with a diamond on her finger*

And it was awesome.

The Boyfriend really is a thinker, because instead of having to call everyone (which we did for some people, and although it’s super fun I wish we could have told them in person) we got to SEE everyone that night at the hotel. Wayyy more fun to flash your bling in person, I’m telling you.

That night was one of the best night’s of my life. Everyone was so happy and excited, and it just made me feel really loved! We spent some of the night with my parents, who came out to see everyone, and a lot of the night with his family. There were celebratory toasts, celebratory tequila shots…life was good.

And it’s just going to get better!
